“One of the greatest dangers to peace lies in the economic pressure to which people find themselves subjected. One of the most practical things to be done in the world is to seek arrangements under which such pressure can be removed, so that opportunity may be renewed and hope may be revived.”
Datu Sundongan, President Roxas, North Cotabato, Mindanao Philippines
Located in the isolated rural area of the Central Mindanao region of the Philippines, the Barangay (Village) of Datu Sundungan lies at the heart of a region of tribal communities in great need.
Bamboo and rush huts line a rocky dirt road, made impassable by monsoonal rains. For years there was no clean water, limited employment, health or dental care and very limited educational opportunities in the area. Noble Endeavours has partnered with the local community to meet the pressing humanitarian needs of the area and to build sustainable opportunities for the region’s future
- Since 2008 Noble Endeavours has established a school on 4 hectares of tribal land with 6 classes in 2013 and over 176 indigenous children receiving a free education and a hot meal every day
- We have installed a purified water system to provide clean water for the children and large numbers of people surrounding the school community and regular training programs health and dental program for the surrounding communities.
- Agricultural Development programs have been established with a Model Training Farm with piggery, goat house and chicken run and including permaculture vegetable gardens, with training program being provided to local families for the establishment of family farms to guarantee food security and income.
- A new community centre was constructed to provide classrooms, meeting hall, library and computer lab, with a Birthing, Medical and Dental Clinic included. The Janice McKay Community Centre has already become a focal point and vibrant centre for community life.
